Transportation
Electricity: Providers are Virginia Dominion Power and Southside Electric Cooperative.
Water: While most of the county relies on wells, Aqua-Virginia, a privately owned water company, serves some of the main arteries of Powhatan, such as the Courthouse area and portions of the Route 60 corridor. A public waterline extends from the eastern end of Route 60 from the Chesterfield County line to serve customers along that corridor to Judes Ferry Road. Construction to extend that line to Rocky Oak Road is slated to begin in 2010.
Sewer: While most of the county relies on septic tanks, there are two main wastewater treatment plants operating in Powhatan. The Fighting Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant serves residents in the Village and a portion of Route 60. The Dutoy Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant serves the new high school and portions of eastern Route 60.
The Powhatan Board of Supervisors has established a water and sewer service district, where connections are available primarily to serve new commercial growth along the Route 60 corridor and in the Court House Village area.
Solid Waste Disposal: The Powhatan Convenience Center located on Mitchell Road accepts household debris, construction debris (for a fee), and provides some recycling services.
