Powhatan’s Festival of the Grape – This annual event occurs on the last Saturday in October. Virginia wineries are invited to the historic Courthouse Square lawn to allow the public to sample the fruits of their labor. Area artisans and food vendors are also invited to sell their wares. People near and far enjoy a day of wine tasting,live entertainment, shopping, and food. The Powhatan Ruritan Dove Festival takes place in September.

The Powhatan Lion’s Club annual steer roast takes place on the fourth Wednesday of April at the rescue squad building in the Village. 804-794-1440

Antique Power Show – Sponsored by the Coalition of Powhatan Churches, the Annual Antique Power Show is held on the last Saturday and Sunday of April at Yorkshire Place off of Academy Road. It showcases some of the finest antique cars, tractors, and steam and gas engines in Virginia. One of the main events is an antique tractor pull. Powhatan Memorial Show is held each Sunday before Memorial Day in May at Powhatan High School. This wonderful show honors and remembers those who paid the ultimate price for their country and those who have served and are serving in our armed forces. As a thank you, Powhatan residents put on a show of patriotic songs and music and dress up in their finest red, white, and blue. 804-598-3074

The annual Relay for Life is held on the first Friday night in June to raise money for the American Cancer Society. This event starts at 7 p.m. and continues through the night at Powhatan Elementary School. If rain is in the forecast, the Relay is held at Powhatan High School. 804-598-3074.

Holly Days Bazaar - An annual event held on the Saturday and Sunday before Thanksgiving at Powhatan Elementary School, this bazaar occurs just in time for Christmas and features arts, crafts, food, and various other wares from area vendors. 804-598-6969

The annual Powhatan Christmas tree lighting and parade occurs on the second Saturday of December. Beginning at Powhatan Elementary School,the parade features a procession of floats, fire engines, antique cars, and horses with representation from just about every organization in Powhatan. The parade ends with Santa at the Courthouse Square lawn where all gather around for the lighting of the Christmas tree. 804-598-3806

Powhatan Labor Day parade - Held annually on Labor Day on Old Buckingham Road in the Village, this parade has become one of Powhatan’s favorite events. 804-598-2911

James River Bateaux Festival - Every year beginning on the weekend of Father’s Day in June, people from all over Virginia set out on a week long adventure on the James River. The bateaux were used to transport goods and people along the river from the 1700’s up until the early 1900’s. The journey begins in Lynchburg and ends some 120 miles down the river at Maiden’s Landing in Powhatan. 434-528-3950

Powhatan Civil War Roundtable – This organization meets once monthly to discuss all aspects of the American Civil War for educational purposes. It is open to all adults and children 10 and older. Membership is encouraged, but not required. 804-794-0225 or www.powhatancwrt.com
